Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi won’t hit theatres on Diwali; makers yet to decide ‘realistic’ release date

Reliance Entertainment, the makers of Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi said they aren’t sure whether the release date of Ranveer Singh’s 83, slated for Christmas, will also be shifted.

Akshay Kumar’s much-awaited action feature Sooryavanshi will not be releasing on Diwali, Reliance Entertainment Group CEO Sibashish Sarkar said on 2 October.

The studio had announced in June that the film will hit the theatres on Diwali, while their another release Ranveer Singh’s 83 will arrive on Christmas.

Though the theatres are still shut across the country, they are expected to reopen from 15 October after the Union Home Ministry permitted cinemas and multiplexes to resume operations with up to 50 percent of their seating capacity.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will be issuing a standard operating procedure (SOP) for cinemas soon.

Sarkar is happy with the government’s decision but he is still unsure whether all the theatres will be operational by 15 October.

Given the uncertainty, Sarkar said it is not practically possible to release Sooryavanshi on Diwali.

“One thing is clear, we are not releasing any film on Diwali. No other decision has been taken. It is not possible to release a film on Diwali now. As of now, all cinema houses are not opening from 15 October. Even if it opens on 1 November, how can you release a film in 10 or 15 days notice period?” he told the Press Trust of India.

He said the makers are yet to take a call on the new release date of the Rohit Shetty-directed film.

“We are not sure whether we will change both Sooryavanshi or 83 or we will just shift one film. It is definitely clear December to March is the time (to release films), this is the realistic timeline,” he added.

Sooryavanshi, directed by Rohit Shetty, was originally scheduled for 24 March and Kabir Khan-helmed 83 was set to hit the cinema houses on 10 April.

But both the movies were indefinitely postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, which led to theatres shutdown across the country and in other parts of the world.

Sooryavanshi is the third film in Shetty’s cop universe after Ajay Devgn’s Singham and Ranveer-starrer Simmba.

The film is presented by Reliance Entertainment and produced by Rohit Shetty Picturez in association with Dharma Productions and Cape of Good Films.

A week after releasing the first teaser from the film, the makers of Jawaani Jaaneman have unveiled the first look poster of Alaya Furniturewallah from the movie. Standing in front of a door with a pile of suitcases behind her and a backpack on her shoulders, Alaya is introduced as the “new star of the new decade.”

Jawaani Jaaneman is helmed by Nitin Kakkar, who had previously directed Filmistaan and Mitron. It’s is touted as a fun, comic take on how a man confronts the harsh reality of his life. The film is produced by Jacky Bhagnani, Saif’s Black Knight Films and Jay Shewakramani’s Northern Lights Films.

The teaser, dropped on 27 December, 2019, saw Saif Ali Khan’s character partying at clubs, drinking himself silly, giving a clear picture of his irreverence right from when he is heard saying, “sher hu main sher. Jab tak akele rehta hai, woh raaj karta hai.” (I am a tiger. A tiger rules the roost till the time he is single.) It also saw him grooving to the revamped version of his iconic song ‘Ole Ole’ from the 1994 romantic drama Yeh Dillagi.

Producer Jay Shewakramani had earlier said the father-daughter bond between Saif and Alaya’s characters at the story’s core is both unique and relatable.

“A father-daughter relationship is universal. I don’t know about how different it is but the one depicted in Jawaani Jaaneman is definitely very unique, as well as new-age and contemporary,” the co-producer added.

Jawaani Jaaneman is set to hit theatres on 31 January.

Malang makers release character posters of Aditya Roy Kapur, Anil Kapoor, Disha Patani; trailer to release on 6 January

Malang-Poster

Aditya Roy Kapur and Disha Patani-starrer Malang is one of the most-anticipated films of 2020. Malang is a revenge drama, helmed by Aashiqui 2 director Mohit Suri, and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Luv Ranjan, Ankur, and Jay Shewakramani.

The makers released the first poster of Aditya Roy Kapur, Anil Kapoor, and Disha Patani’s character in the film. The actor also shared an image of it on social media. Sporting a pair of jeans, Kapur’s character is intense and screams into nothingness, almost as a sign of extreme anger. The poster is accompanied by a quote that says, “Unleash the madness,” which may well be a pointer to Kapur’s character arc in the film.

The backdrop of the film is mainly a thriller with a romantic angle that plays out between Aditya and Disha. The film also stars Kunal Kemmu in a pivotal role. A Mumbai Mirror report had previously stated Anil Kapoor’s character in the film will have shades of grey. In fact, a character poster of Kapoor was released a week ago on the seasoned actor’s birthday, where he sports rose-tinted glasses and a police officer’s uniform.

Malang marks the reunion of Aditya and Mohit after a period of six years, post Aashqiui 2. Meanwhile, Kunal comes on board Mohit’s film after having worked with him on Kalyug 14 years ago.

The film is slated to hit screens on 7 February. The trailer will be released on 6 January.

It is a gamble but it’s our belief that after watching this clip audience will be compelled to see the film. Fingers crossed,” Shah said in a statement.

Jammwal’s Karan Singh is tasked to team up with Mallika Sood (Dhar) from British Intelligence and Indian agent Bhawana Reddy (Sharama) to save the nation, and knock down Devaiah’s evil plans. The footage reveals Jammwal using his exceptional martial arts skills to beat up villains double his size, indulge in high-speed car chases, and spew out huge dose of patriot dialogues.

Commando 3 is presented by Reliance Entertainment and Motion Picture Capital, in association with Sun Shine Pictures and Vipul Amrutlal Shah Production.

Dishoom’s makers are trying to prevent a piracy leak; here’s how

Varun Dhawan, John Abraham and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer  Dishoom certainly doesn’t want to go the Great Grand Masti and Udta Punjab way.

The film is releasing on 29 July, and the makers are planning ways to combat the looming piracy threat. According to this Times of India report, the producers of Dishoom have approached Bombay High Court to direct all telecom, TV and digital operators to ensure the movie is not made illegally available on any platform.

This move was a result of a meeting held on 21 July, which was attended by all producers and studios in unison to combat the threat of piracy.

Mukesh Bhatt, president of Film and Television Producers Guild of India, spoke to TOI, saying that the recent examples of piracy are a serious threat to the film industry as a whole, and also to the security of India’s “intellectual assets.” He asked for a high level probe and intervention by the PM on the matter.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that an immediate measure has been taken to ensure no piracy of Dishoom occurs before its release. The copy of the movie has been submitted in an encrypted format to the CBFC for certification, in a DCP-KDM format, rather than a DVD.

The makers of Dishoom surely believe prevention is better than cure.
